The Archive contains unique documents relating to Hawke’s Bay’s past and New Zealand’s history.

Archives Collection 

Tātai Kōrero

Many of the items are of national and regional significance including the William Colenso collection of letters, pamphlets and diaries, the Hawke’s Bay earthquake archives and the Whitmore papers relating to the East Coast campaign of the New Zealand Wars. There are also items that relate to New Zealand's history. 

The Archive includes diaries, letters, photographs, genealogical resources, business records, sporting groups and societies, newspapers and magazines, posters, illuminated scrolls, maps, Māori archives relating to Hawke’s Bay, architectural plans, MTG institutional archives and a rare book collection.
