The Great Ahuriri Escape

Escape your way out of Hawke’s Bay’s biggest treasure vault by learning stories behind the different names of some of our local landscape features like Bluff Hill, Karetoki Whare, and West Quay. We’ll give you a few clues and then it’s all about team work and problem-solving. This can be combined with a short tour to locate some of these features or our free self-guided walk, Out and About. 

 

Learning Areas and Strands: Social Studies, Aotearoa Histories, Mātauranga Māori

Duration: 1 hour

Suitable for: Year 5 - 8

Availability: Begins Term 1, 2023. Ongoing. 

Cost (per student): $2.50 

 

Based in the museum classroom, your students will:

  • Use a map to identify significant locations in Napier and learn the history behind these

  • Work in small groups to solve a variety of clues 

  • "Escape" the room by identifying the te reo Māori names for local sites
