This programme looks at the arrival of Pākeha into Te Matau a Māui and considers the implications of Te Tiriti across Aotearoa. We look at the relationship between local rangitira and settler militia during the Hauhau conflicts in Pētane and Ōmarunui. Students will visit the Kuru Taonga gallery to learn the stories of some of the key rangitira at the time, and return to the classroom to design and create peace flags.
