|Duration||2 days at the museum plus school-based sessions|
|Years||Years 1 - 8; for kura and decile 1-3 schools in Hawke's Bay|
|Venue||MTG Hawke's Bay and Hawke's Bay schools|
|Learning Areas||Technology, Social Sciences, Arts|
As part of the Ministry of Education Digital Technologies for All Equity fund, the Raranga Matihiko programme delivers innovative digital technologies to those with limited digital learning opportunities, while increasing access to national and local exhibitions and collections.
Throughout the programme, students solve real-world problems, while enriching their knowledge of their communities and regions.
Through accessing national and local collections, learners can co-create and curate their own learning using digital technologies. The solutions developed will be shared using a range of digital media.
This programme is provided at no cost to the school. The costs covered include Teacher Release Day (TRD) for one planning day, transport while visiting the museum, facilitation, and technology use.
A bespoke approach
No single programme will be identical. Each class will have a bespoke programme plan designed for their learners.
This ensures the needs of the learners are met, and provides support to each learner as they develop digital fluency skills in a cross-curricula approach. This includes building students' understandings of computational thinking, digital citizenship, and literacy.
Building confidence in digital technologies
Concurrently, we will work with teachers to build their confidence in working with digital technologies, and we welcome whānau, family, and community involvement.
A key aspect of our approach is that the museum will share stories captured by programme participants with the public by digital and/or physical display (with agreement from the participants and kāhui ako).
MTG has partnered with Te Papa to deliver this programme in Hawke’s Bay. Te Papa is also delivering the programme in the Wellington region and has partnered with Te Kōngahu Museum of Waitangi and Tamaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum in the Auckland and Northland regions.
The programme will be designed and delivered by learning innovation specialists. The three modes of delivery include face-to-face in museum, face-to-face in school, and online.
As per the requirements of the Digital Technologies for All Equity Fund, school participation includes:
