MTG Hawke’s Bay has once again been given the nod by the museum industry – securing three finalist spots in the upcoming New Zealand Museum Awards.
“We’re thrilled,” said MTG Hawke’s Bay Director Laura Vodanovich. “We would have been happy to be finalists in one category but to be in three is an amazing achievement.”
The recent exhibition on the life and wardrobe of flamboyant former MP Whetu Tirikatene-Sullivan, Travel in Style is nominated in two categories; for Best Exhibition over $20,000 and Most Innovative use of Te Reo Maori, while Dr Felkin and the Forerunners: Visions of Utopia, 1900 1930 is a finalist in the Best Exhibition under $20,000 category.
Ms Vodanovich said the nominations were a result of many hours of hard work by staff. “It’s great for them to be acknowledged and it also helps raise the profile of MTG in the public arena.”
Napier Mayor Bill Dalton said the award nominations showed MTG was a great asset to the region and he was proud the quality of what it offered has been given the nod by the museum industry.
“This is a great boost. I thoroughly enjoyed both these exhibitions and to see them get acknowledged is just fantastic.”
Museums Aotearoa Executive Director Phillipa Tocker said there were 22 finalists across six categories.
“The high calibre of creativity, imagination, and depth and range of entries demonstrates how museums and galleries are engaging, entertaining and ultimately satisfying audiences all over the country.”
Last year MTG won the Best Museum Project at the same awards.
